Kate Jordan

As a Staff Governor at Patcham High School, Kate Jordan is an inspiration to many. In fact, Kate undertakes various crucial roles at the school. She is a Learning Mentor, an LGBT ally and works closely with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team. Known for her commitment and drive, Kate is devoted to making sure every child has the best learning experience possible.
In her position as Learning Mentor, Kate supports vulnerable children through personal and educational issues, offering them encouragement and inspiration. She also works hard to make sure that the books in the school library represent all children. During the pandemic, she worked with other members of the community to support the children of key-workers too.
The sole parent of twin daughters, Kate returned to Education in her 30s and qualified as a Teacher of Design & Technology, to create a better life for her family and to combine her passion for creativity and working with young people. Through the years, she has faced various challenges but has always used them as a learning experience to help others.
Kate is the Brighton & Hove Equalities Officer for the National Education Union. She is a volunteer mentor with Black and Minority Ethnic Young People's Project too. She works tirelessly for racial equality within the local education system. Kate is a founder of the Brighton & Hove Educators of Colour Collective, a support network, empowering students, their families and staff of colour working in educational settings.
Kate is passionate about young people of all backgrounds having access to a good education, whatever their family background, race, gender or sexuality. A role model of compassion and strength. She is one of Brighton's leading lights.
